Existen muchas historias a lo largo de las carreteras a nivel mundial. Leyendas de conductores que aseguran haber visto apariciones, seres misteriosos que se desvanecen en la carretera, e incluso algunos conductores llegan a recoger personas en la v\u00eda y luego presencian su desaparici\u00f3n mientras van en camino.<\/p>

Colombia no es ajena a este tipo de an\u00e9cdotas y algunas pueden sucederles incluso a familiares o amigos.<\/p>

Hace unos dos a\u00f1os, por las carreteras de la Costa Atl\u00e1ntica colombiana, mi primo Nelson se encontraba a las afueras del Estadio Metropolitano de Barranquilla. Nuestra Selecci\u00f3n de futbol disputaba uno de los \u00faltimos encuentros y, a su vez, una de las \u00faltimas oportunidades de clasificar al Mundial de Catar 2022.<\/p>

El rival era la Selecci\u00f3n de Per\u00fa. Fue un partido donde la Selecci\u00f3n Colombia se esforz\u00f3 y logr\u00f3 tener a Per\u00fa varias veces contra las cuerdas; pero a veces a Colombia e incluso a nosotros como compatriotas, nos quedan faltando cinco centavos para el peso\u2026 En la \u00faltima jugada del partido, el seleccionado peruano logr\u00f3 convertir un gol y dejar as\u00ed a Colombia pr\u00e1cticamente eliminada.<\/p>

Como era de esperar, todos los espectadores salieron del estadio con caras largas, ya todos sab\u00edamos que Colombia no ir\u00eda al Mundial a pesar de faltar un partido, pues este era contra Argentina. Nuestras selecciones suelen sucumbir ya sea por miedo o simple falta de ambici\u00f3n.<\/p>

Nelson y sus amigos decidieron seguir el r\u00edo humano que se dirig\u00eda lentamente hacia el parqueadero del estadio. Como suele suceder en este tipo de eventos, el alcohol est\u00e1 presente tanto en la victoria como en la derrota, lo \u00fanico que cambia es el estado de \u00e1nimo al momento de consumirlo y, obviamente, la\u00a0playlist<\/em>\u00a0acorde a la situaci\u00f3n.<\/p>

Nelson solo pudo observar c\u00f3mo sus amigos discut\u00edan la \u00faltima jugada del partido y el c\u00f3mo era posible que la Selecci\u00f3n hubiese perdido en un partido que ten\u00eda todos los ingredientes para ser ganado.<\/p>

A medida que pasaba el tiempo, empezaron a aparecer las t\u00edpicas propuestas de borracho que nunca se cumplen:<\/p>

\u201cAaah, si Colombia hubiera ganado, \u00a1ma\u00f1ana vender\u00eda el carro y comprar\u00eda los tiquetes para Catar! \u00a1\u00a1Colombia, me jodiste la navidad en el desierto!!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>

Para Nelson, esta fue la se\u00f1al que indicaba que era momento de partir rumbo a su ciudad de origen.<\/p>

Nelson, muy responsablemente, hab\u00eda decidido no tomar ninguna bebida alcoh\u00f3lica y as\u00ed, en estado de sobriedad, procedi\u00f3 a acomodar en el carro a los tres amigos alicorados que segu\u00edan discutiendo sobre qu\u00e9 vender para ir a Catar y sobre qu\u00e9 decirles a sus jefes el d\u00eda siguiente, pues el partido se disput\u00f3 entre semana y todos se declararon enfermos en sus respectivos trabajos, pensando en la victoria colombiana para continuar la celebraci\u00f3n.<\/p>

As\u00ed inici\u00f3 el trayecto de regreso, el viaje ser\u00eda aproximadamente de unas diez horas, tom\u00e1ndose unos quince minutos para llenar el tanque de gasolina y beber alg\u00fan caf\u00e9 cargado para continuar el recorrido.<\/p>

La primera hora transcurri\u00f3 entre canciones, gritos de alegr\u00eda y efectos activos del alcohol en la sangre. Cada ocupante del veh\u00edculo sac\u00f3 a relucir sus planteamientos t\u00e1cticos que, juraban, hubiesen sido la soluci\u00f3n para el gol y la victoria de la Selecci\u00f3n.<\/p>

Para la segunda hora, todos sucumbieron al sue\u00f1o, y entre leves ronquidos y una\u00a0playlist<\/em>\u00a0de vallenato cl\u00e1sico, Nelson sigui\u00f3 el recorrido.<\/p>

Como ustedes saben, las carreteras de la Costa Norte colombiana suelen ser rectas prolongadas hasta tocar el departamento de Santander; as\u00ed que el trayecto fue muy tranquilo hasta la quinta hora de recorrido.<\/p>

La ruta nacional toc\u00f3 el departamento de Santander y de ah\u00ed en adelante comenzaron las curvas. Este departamento se caracteriza por ser un vaiv\u00e9n constante de curvas, subidas, bajadas y ca\u00f1ones naturales. Ser\u00eda un examen dif\u00edcil para un conductor sin mucha experiencia.<\/p>

Uno de los acompa\u00f1antes, quien se encontraba de copiloto, se levant\u00f3 por un leve momento al verse algo mareado por las constantes curvas que dibujan las monta\u00f1as de la Cordillera Oriental.<\/p>

\u201cNelson, \u00bfpor d\u00f3nde vamos?\u201d, habl\u00f3 suavemente el copiloto.<\/p>

\u201cCerca de la bomba amarilla, tranquilo que ah\u00ed paramos un rato, tengo unas ganas de un caf\u00e9\u2026\u201d, le respondi\u00f3 Nelson.<\/p>

\u201cOle, \u00bfqu\u00e9 es ese punto blanco en la cima de esa loma?\u201d, dijo, en tono de sorpresa, el copiloto.<\/p>

\u201cOiga, no s\u00e9, voy a bajarle un poco a la velocidad a ver qu\u00e9 es\u201d, replic\u00f3 Nelson.<\/p>

El autom\u00f3vil baj\u00f3 un poco la velocidad y en la penumbra de la noche divisaron lo que parec\u00eda ser un ente demoniaco vestido de blanco, con una cara demacrada que hac\u00eda se\u00f1as inentendibles cerca de nosotros. El susto los invadi\u00f3 y aceleraron al m\u00e1ximo el carro. Para Nelson, la parada a comer dej\u00f3 de existir en ese momento, y el mareo y el sue\u00f1o del copiloto desaparecieron.<\/p>

Con el tanque casi vac\u00edo, Nelson y su grupo llegaron a una estaci\u00f3n cercana a su ciudad de origen, y a\u00fan con el silencio presente, los ocupantes del carro que iban en la parte trasera se sorprendieron al llegar a su destino mucho antes de lo presupuestado.<\/p>

\u201cUyyy, mano, si llegamos as\u00ed de r\u00e1pido, que Nelson siga manejando, jajaja. Es que hasta podr\u00eda ir a trabajar hoy de lo r\u00e1pido que llegamos\u201d, dijo uno de los ocupantes.<\/p>

Nelson a\u00fan segu\u00eda nervioso, al igual que su copiloto. Por esta raz\u00f3n, muy angustiado, Nelson pidi\u00f3 encarecidamente que lo reemplazaran ya que no se sent\u00eda muy bien para manejar.<\/p>

As\u00ed lleg\u00f3 Nelson a su casa y permaneci\u00f3 por lo menos tres d\u00edas en estado de shock. Intent\u00f3 ir a la iglesia para calmar sus nervios, pero solo las palabras de su psic\u00f3loga le hicieron mejorar un poco su estado de \u00e1nimo.<\/p>

\u201cNelson, s\u00e9 que fue una experiencia traum\u00e1tica, pero suponiendo que crey\u00e9ramos en las manifestaciones, estas suelen ocurrir solo en un lugar espec\u00edfico, por eso hay lugares que se consideran santuarios, porque solo se presentan ah\u00ed. Tranquil\u00edzate que esa aparici\u00f3n no va a encontrarte ni a perseguirte, eso solo pasa en las pel\u00edculas, mira que ni Annabelle sali\u00f3 de la casa donde la ten\u00edan\u201d, le explic\u00f3 la psic\u00f3loga, intentando provocarle una sonrisa a Nelson.<\/p>

\u201cTiene raz\u00f3n, doctora, creo que debo volver a mi vida y dejar de molestarme por esa aparici\u00f3n, mi amigo ya la olvid\u00f3. \u00c9l me coment\u00f3 que posiblemente fue efecto del mareo y del alcohol y que, por ello, se imagin\u00f3 ese espectro. Y que, en mi caso, habr\u00eda sido fruto del cansancio o tal vez alg\u00fan reflejo de una se\u00f1al de carretera\u201d, argument\u00f3 Nelson.<\/p>

\u201cBueno doctora, much\u00edsimas gracias, ya me siento mucho mejor incluso para ir a la entrevista de trabajo que tengo pendiente\u201d.<\/p>

Nelson sali\u00f3 de consulta y se dirigi\u00f3 al lugar de su entrevista, donde se buscaba un profesor de matem\u00e1ticas para los grados d\u00e9cimo y once de bachillerato.<\/p>

Las pruebas se efectuaron en el colegio Nuestra Se\u00f1ora de los Milagros. Fue la t\u00edpica prueba de llenar ocho cuadros vac\u00edos con alg\u00fan dibujo siguiendo un patr\u00f3n, las t\u00edpicas preguntas de an\u00e1lisis matem\u00e1tico y una corta entrevista con la encargada de Recursos Humanos.<\/p>

Fue tan gen\u00e9rica y a la vez tan positiva la entrevista, que incluso a Nelson, explicando que su mayor defecto era ser perfeccionista, le vali\u00f3 para llegar al \u00faltimo filtro para ser contratado inmediatamente, ya que se necesitaba con urgencia un profesor.<\/p>

\u201cBueno, el \u00faltimo paso es una entrevista con la hermana, ella dar\u00e1 el \u2018s\u00ed\u2019 final, muchos \u00e9xitos, joven Nelson\u201d, se despidi\u00f3 cort\u00e9smente la encargada de
Recursos Humanos.<\/p>

Nelson se dirigi\u00f3 hacia la oficina de la rector\u00eda. Era una habitaci\u00f3n grande, rodeada de muchos cuadros de promociones anteriores, diplomas de educaci\u00f3n y por supuesto, un gran atril con una Biblia de bordes dorados.<\/p>

\u201cBienvenido, joven Nelson, he visto sus pruebas y me gusta lo que vi, se ve que usted es una persona amable, tiene preparaci\u00f3n para el cargo y creo que podr\u00eda encajar muy bien aqu\u00ed\u201d, dijo la hermana muy convencida.<\/p>

\u201cMuchas gracias por sus palabras, espero no desilusionarla\u201d, respondi\u00f3 Nelson.<\/p>

Durante quince minutos, la hermana y Nelson hablaron de todo tipo de temas, mientras que la primera intentaba conocerlo mejor y as\u00ed poder crear un perfil personal mucho m\u00e1s detallado sobre su futuro profesor de matem\u00e1ticas.<\/p>

\u201cMe parece que ya est\u00e1 cerrado, quiero darle la bienvenida a esta escuela, solo le voy a pedir que firme este papel\u201d, afirm\u00f3 la hermana.<\/p>

Nelson recibi\u00f3 el papel y con una mirada helada, solo pudo leer lo siguiente:<\/p>

\u201cBienvenido al colegio, solo una cosa m\u00e1s: \u00a1\u00a1\u00a1CUANDO VEA UNA MONJA EN LA CARRETERA DE NOCHE\u2026 REC\u00d3JALA!!!\u201d<\/p>

Nelson levant\u00f3 la cabeza y pudo notar que en uno de los cuadros de promociones anteriores hab\u00eda un gran letrero con marco rojo, era una p\u00e1gina del peri\u00f3dico donde se pod\u00eda leer:<\/p>

Exist are many stories along the roads worldwide. Legends of drivers who claim to have seen apparitions, mysterious beings that vanish on the road, and even some drivers pick up people on the road only to witness their disappearance while en route.<\/p>

Colombia is not immune to these kinds of anecdotes, and some may even happen to relatives or friends.<\/p>

About two years ago, on the roads of the Colombian Atlantic Coast, my cousin Nelson was outside the Metropolitano Stadium in Barranquilla. Our national football team was playing one of the last matches and, at the same time, one of the last chances to qualify for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.<\/p>

The opponent was the Peruvian national team. It was a game where the Colombian team made an effort and managed to have Peru on the ropes several times; but sometimes, Colombia, and even us as compatriots, fall just short of the mark… In the last play of the match, the Peruvian team managed to score a goal, leaving Colombia practically eliminated.<\/p>

As expected, all the spectators left the stadium with long faces; everyone knew that Colombia wouldn’t go to the World Cup despite one more match remaining, which was against Argentina. Our teams tend to succumb either due to fear or simple lack of ambition.<\/p>

Nelson and his friends decided to follow the human river slowly heading towards the stadium parking lot. As is usual at such events, alcohol is present in both victory and defeat; the only thing that changes is the mood at the time of consumption and, of course, the playlist appropriate to the situation.<\/p>

Nelson could only watch as his friends discussed the last play of the game and how it was possible for the national team to lose a match that had all the ingredients for a victory.<\/p>

As time passed, the typical drunk proposals that are never fulfilled began to emerge:<\/p>

“Aah, if Colombia had won, tomorrow I would sell my car and buy tickets to Qatar! Colombia, you messed up my Christmas in the desert!”<\/p>

For Nelson, this was the signal that it was time to head back to his hometown.<\/p>

Nelson, very responsibly, had decided not to drink any alcoholic beverages and thus, soberly, proceeded to accommodate in the car the three intoxicated friends who continued to argue about what to sell to go to Qatar and what to tell their bosses the next day, as the match was played on a weekday, and everyone declared themselves sick at their respective jobs, anticipating a Colombian victory to continue the celebration.<\/p>

That’s how the return journey began; the trip would take approximately ten hours, with a fifteen-minute stop to fill up the gas tank and have some strong coffee to continue the journey.<\/p>

The first hour passed with songs, shouts of joy, and the active effects of alcohol in the blood. Each occupant of the vehicle brought out their tactical plans, which they swore would have been the solution for the goal and the victory of the national team.<\/p>

By the second hour, everyone succumbed to sleep, and amid soft snores and a playlist of classic vallenato, Nelson continued the journey.<\/p>

As you know, the roads of the Colombian North Coast are usually long straight stretches until they touch the department of Santander; so the journey was very peaceful until the fifth hour of travel.<\/p>

The national route reached the department of Santander, and from there on, the curves began. This department is characterized by being a constant sway of curves, ascents, descents, and natural canyons. It would be a challenging test for a driver with little experience.<\/p>

One of the companions, who was in the front passenger seat, got up for a brief moment feeling a bit dizzy due to the constant curves drawn by the mountains of the Eastern Cordillera.<\/p>

“Nelson, which way are we going?” the co-pilot spoke softly.<\/p>

“Near the yellow gas station, don’t worry, we’ll stop there for a while. I’m in the mood for coffee,” Nelson replied.<\/p>

“Hey, what’s that white dot on top of that hill?” said the co-pilot in surprise.<\/p>

“Hey, I don’t know, I’m going to slow down a bit to see what it is,” Nelson replied.<\/p>

The car slowed down a bit, and in the dim light of the night, they saw what seemed to be a demonic figure dressed in white, with a emaciated face making unintelligible signs near them. Fear invaded them, and they accelerated the car to the maximum. For Nelson, the stop for food ceased to exist at that moment, and the co-pilot’s dizziness and sleep disappeared.<\/p>

With the tank almost empty, Nelson and his group arrived at a station near their hometown, and even with silence present, the car’s occupants in the back were surprised to reach their destination much earlier than budgeted.<\/p>

“Wow, man, if we arrived so fast, let Nelson keep driving, hahaha. He could even go to work today from how quickly we got here,” said one of the occupants.<\/p>

Nelson was still nervous, as was his co-pilot. For this reason, very distressed, Nelson earnestly asked to be replaced as he did not feel very well to drive.<\/p>

This is how Nelson arrived home and remained in a state of shock for at least three days. He tried to go to church to calm his nerves, but only the words of his psychologist made him improve his mood a little.<\/p>

“Nelson, I know it was a traumatic experience, but assuming we believed in manifestations, these usually only happen in a specific place, that’s why there are places considered sanctuaries because they only occur there. Relax, that apparition won’t find you or chase you, that only happens in movies, look, not even Annabelle came out of the house where they had her,” the psychologist explained, trying to provoke a smile from Nelson.<\/p>

“You’re right, doctor, I think I need to get back to my life and stop bothering about that apparition; my friend already forgot about it. He told me that it was possibly due to dizziness and alcohol, and that, in my case, it would have been the result of fatigue or maybe a reflection of a road sign,” argued Nelson.<\/p>

“Well, doctor, thank you very much, I feel much better even to go to the job interview I have pending.”<\/p>

Nelson left the consultation and went to his job interview location, where they were looking for a mathematics teacher for tenth and eleventh grades.<\/p>

The tests were conducted at Our Lady of Miracles School. It was the typical test of filling in eight empty boxes with some drawing following a pattern, typical questions of mathematical analysis, and a short interview with the Human Resources manager.<\/p>

The interview was so generic and positive that even Nelson, explaining that his biggest flaw was being a perfectionist, was enough to pass the final screening to be hired immediately since a math teacher was urgently needed.<\/p>

“Well, the last step is an interview with the sister; she will give the final ‘yes.’ Good luck, young Nelson,” the Human Resources manager courteously said goodbye.<\/p>

Nelson headed to the rector’s office. It was a large room surrounded by many frames of previous promotions, education diplomas, and of course, a large lectern with a Bible with gold edges.<\/p>

“Welcome, young Nelson, I have seen your tests, and I like what I saw; you seem to be a kind person, you are prepared for the position, and I think you could fit in very well here,” said the sister very convinced.<\/p>

“Thank you very much for your words; I hope not to disappoint you,” Nelson replied.<\/p>

For fifteen minutes, the sister and Nelson talked about all kinds of topics, while the former tried to get to know him better and thus be able to create a much more detailed personal profile of their future mathematics teacher.<\/p>

“I think it’s settled; I want to welcome you to this school, I just need you to sign this paper,” the sister affirmed.<\/p>

Nelson received the paper and with a frozen look, could only read the following:<\/p>

“Welcome to the school, just one more thing: WHEN YOU SEE A NUN ON THE ROAD AT NIGHT… PICK HER UP!!!”<\/p>

Nelson raised his head and could see that in one of the frames of previous promotions, there was a large sign with a red border, it was a newspaper page where you could read:<\/p>
