Mi padre, un se\u00f1or de aproximadamente setenta a\u00f1os, suele salir por un caf\u00e9 cada ma\u00f1ana a las 10:00 a.m. Es una rutina que le permite hacer ejercicio, algo que \u00e9l mismo considera como \u201csu gimnasio diario\u201d.<\/p>

Aquel d\u00eda, sali\u00f3 como todas las ma\u00f1anas. Vest\u00eda una camiseta deportiva de la Selecci\u00f3n Colombia versi\u00f3n retro, la cual le regal\u00e9 emocionado luego ver por primera vez un Mundial de f\u00fatbol, en el 2014. \u00c9l suele combinarla con una pantaloneta negra y unos tenis blancos bastante limpios. La verdad no s\u00e9 c\u00f3mo hacen los padres para cuidar tanto sus zapatos.<\/p>

As\u00ed, con ese look, se fue con mi madre hacia el centro comercial m\u00e1s cercano, el cual estaba a unas dos cuadras.<\/p>

El d\u00eda era bastante bonito, un sol con pocas nubes contrastaba con la sombra de los arboles que cubr\u00eda la mayor parte del camino, aquel que diariamente caminaban mis padres.<\/p>

Dentro del peque\u00f1o centro comercial se ubica un local de caf\u00e9, al que cada d\u00eda entre semana suelen llegar los mismos personajes; es casi un ritual levantar la cabeza y ver los mismos cuatro perfiles:<\/p>

Una dama pensionada que va todas las ma\u00f1anas a leer el peri\u00f3dico, un empresario que suele tomarse un caf\u00e9 luego de terminar su rutina de gimnasio, una pareja de universitarios que espera la clase de las 11:00 a.m. y mis padres, quienes completan la lista.<\/p>

Cada uno de estos personajes se sienta en un v\u00e9rtice de la peque\u00f1a plaza central que tiene forma de cuadrado, con el peque\u00f1o local de caf\u00e9 en el centro.<\/p>

Eran las 10:20 a.m. y las personas ya mencionadas se encontraban en su puesto, disfrutando de su acostumbrado caf\u00e9. Hasta ese momento, era un d\u00eda cualquiera de mitad de semana laboral.<\/p>

Mi madre, distra\u00edda por las notificaciones de su celular, estaba leyendo, bastante consternada, acerca del efecto Mercurio retr\u00f3grado. Le coment\u00f3 a mi padre:<\/p>

\u201c\u00a1Mira! El efecto Mercurio retr\u00f3grado es un efecto estelar donde la desaceleraci\u00f3n del planeta Mercurio genera en los seres humanos una alteraci\u00f3n en sus comportamientos, que ocasiona lo que coloquialmente se llama \u2018mala suerte\u2019\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>

Mi padre siempre ha tenido una actitud esc\u00e9ptica ante todo, y este comentario no fue la excepci\u00f3n:<\/p>

\u201cNo creo que un planeta rija nuestros comportamientos, creo que todo depende de nosotros\u201d, termin\u00f3 diciendo mientras tomaba un gran sorbo de caf\u00e9. Al mismo tiempo, mi madre segu\u00eda leyendo e intentando analizar si esto pod\u00eda afectarle.<\/p>

Mientras tanto, uno de los j\u00f3venes que estaba en una de las esquinas se levant\u00f3 para pedir un vaso extra de caf\u00e9, con la mala fortuna de tropezarse con el computador de su amiga, lo que acab\u00f3 provocando que el equipo cayera al suelo. El joven, apenado, se par\u00f3 r\u00e1pidamente y levant\u00f3 el computador para comprobar que no hubiese recibido un da\u00f1o grave en su funcionamiento.<\/p>

En la otra esquina, la mujer pensionada baj\u00f3 el peri\u00f3dico que ten\u00eda en sus manos con la intenci\u00f3n de ver qu\u00e9 hab\u00eda pasado con la pareja de j\u00f3venes. Quiso sacar r\u00e1pidamente su celular para tomarle una foto a la escena y compartir la imagen en el grupo de WhatsApp donde escribe sus cr\u00edticas hacia la sociedad actual, especialmente hacia los j\u00f3venes, de quienes considera que viven hiperconectados.<\/p>

D\u00e1ndose cuenta r\u00e1pidamente de que no ten\u00eda el bolso en sus piernas, se levant\u00f3 y corri\u00f3 lo m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido que pudo hacia el banco, lugar que previamente hab\u00eda visitado. Insult\u00e1ndose internamente por haberse distra\u00eddo leyendo el peri\u00f3dico dentro de dicha entidad, se lamentaba por lo sucedido.<\/p>

Entre el sutil caos, el empresario intentaba aguantar la risa, y sigui\u00f3 observando la situaci\u00f3n mientras estaba en su tel\u00e9fono hablando con alguien de manera bastante confiada.<\/p>

A lo lejos, se ve\u00eda un gran sujeto de unos dos metros, quien vest\u00eda una camisa amarilla y acompa\u00f1aba a una joven de aproximadamente 1.60 metros de altura. La joven se\u00f1al\u00f3 al empresario y le indic\u00f3 la ubicaci\u00f3n a su acompa\u00f1ante. El empresario, al darse cuenta de que estaba siendo observado y se\u00f1alado, escupi\u00f3 un poco de caf\u00e9\u2026 Y disimuladamente camin\u00f3 hacia la salida m\u00e1s cercana, intentando alejarse lo m\u00e1s r\u00e1pido posible de dicha pareja.<\/p>

Los personajes hac\u00edan parte del staff del gimnasio que se ubica dentro del centro comercial. Al parecer, el empresario no hab\u00eda pagado la \u00faltima cuota del gimnasio y estaba entrando mediante cortes\u00edas que lograba generar h\u00e1bilmente mediante registros de diferentes cuentas que creaba.<\/p>

As\u00ed que el actual escenario consist\u00eda en un caos sutil provocado por la mala suerte y sobre todo, por descuidos personales, algo que hubiera alegrado a mi padre, debido a su teor\u00eda.<\/p>

Hasta ese momento, mis padres no se hab\u00edan enterado de la situaci\u00f3n debido a la rapidez con la que sucedi\u00f3 todo\u2026 Simplemente vieron la plaza vac\u00eda y una pareja de j\u00f3venes discutiendo entre ellos mientras sal\u00edan por la puerta principal con rumbo a la universidad del barrio.<\/p>

Mi padre, viendo que todo estaba muy tranquilo, decidi\u00f3 ir por una nueva raci\u00f3n de caf\u00e9 para \u00e9l y mi madre.<\/p>

Ya en el mostrador, la joven que atend\u00eda el local le dijo:<\/p>

\u201cDisculpe se\u00f1or que me demore en tomarle su pedido, pero misteriosamente la m\u00e1quina de capuchinos dejo de funcionar esta ma\u00f1ana. \u00bfLe molestar\u00eda ordenar algo que no sea caf\u00e9?\u201d<\/p>

Mi padre, que siempre ha sido un tipo tranquilo, solo se limit\u00f3 a decirle:<\/p>

\u201cS\u00ed claro, puede ser un t\u00e9, igual no es culpa suya, parece ser culpa del Mercurio retr\u00f3grado\u201d.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

My father, a man of approximately seventy years, usually goes out for coffee every morning at 10:00 a.m. It’s a routine that allows him to exercise, something he considers his\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0“daily gym.”<\/p>

On that day, he left as he did every morning. He was wearing a retro Colombia national team sports shirt, a gift from me after being excited to watch the World Cup for the first time in 2014. He usually pairs it with black shorts and very clean white sneakers. I honestly don’t know how fathers manage to take such good care of their shoes.<\/p>

So, with that look, he went with my mother to the nearest shopping mall, which was about two blocks away.<\/p>

The day was quite beautiful, a sun with few clouds contrasting with the shadow of the trees covering most of the path, the one my parents walked every day.<\/p>

Inside the small shopping mall is a coffee shop, where the same characters usually come every weekday morning; it’s almost a ritual to look up and see the same four profiles:<\/p>

A retired lady who comes every morning to read the newspaper, a businessman who usually has coffee after finishing his gym routine, a pair of university students waiting for the 11:00 a.m. class, and my parents, who complete the list.<\/p>

Each of these characters sits at a vertex of the small central square that has a square shape, with the small coffee shop in the center.<\/p>

It was 10:20 a.m., and the mentioned people were in their places, enjoying their usual coffee. Until that moment, it was an ordinary mid-week workday.<\/p>

My mother, distracted by her phone notifications, was reading, quite concerned, about the Mercury retrograde effect. She told my father:<\/p>

“Look! The Mercury retrograde effect is a stellar phenomenon where the deceleration of the planet Mercury causes an alteration in human behaviors, leading to what is colloquially called ‘bad luck.'”<\/p>

My father has always had a skeptical attitude about everything, and this comment was no exception:<\/p>

“I don’t believe that a planet governs our behaviors; I think it all depends on us,” he said, taking a big sip of coffee. At the same time, my mother continued reading and trying to analyze if this could affect her.<\/p>

Meanwhile, one of the young people in one of the corners got up to ask for an extra cup of coffee, with the misfortune of tripping over his friend’s laptop, causing the device to fall to the ground. The young man, embarrassed, quickly stood up and picked up the computer to check if it had suffered serious damage.<\/p>

In the other corner, the retired woman lowered the newspaper she had in her hands to see what had happened to the young couple. She wanted to quickly take out her phone to take a picture of the scene and share the image in the WhatsApp group where she writes her critiques of current society, especially towards young people, whom she believes live hyper-connected lives.<\/p>

Realizing quickly that she didn’t have her bag on her lap, she stood up and ran as fast as she could to the bank, a place she had visited earlier. Internally cursing herself for being distracted reading the newspaper inside the bank, she lamented what had happened.<\/p>

Amid the subtle chaos, the businessman tried to hold back his laughter and continued observing the situation while talking on his phone quite confidently.<\/p>

In the distance, a large guy about two meters tall, wearing a yellow shirt, accompanied a young woman of about 1.60 meters in height. The young woman pointed to the businessman and indicated his location to her companion. The businessman, realizing he was being watched and pointed at, spat out a bit of coffee… and discreetly walked towards the nearest exit, trying to distance himself as quickly as possible from that couple.<\/p>

The characters were part of the gym staff located inside the shopping mall. Apparently, the businessman hadn’t paid the last gym installment and was entering through courtesies he skillfully generated through records of different accounts he created.<\/p>

So, the current scenario consisted of subtle chaos caused by bad luck and, above all, personal carelessness, something that would have delighted my father, due to his theory.<\/p>

Until that moment, my parents had not found out about the situation due to how quickly everything happened… They simply saw the square empty and a young couple arguing as they left through the main door heading to the neighborhood university.<\/p>

Seeing that everything was very calm, my father decided to go for a new serving of coffee for him and my mother.<\/p>

At the counter, the young woman attending the shop said:<\/p>

“Sorry, sir, for taking so long to take your order, but mysteriously the cappuccino machine stopped working this morning. Would you mind ordering something other than coffee?”<\/p>

My father, who has always been a calm guy, simply said:<\/p>

“Yes, of course, it can be tea; it’s not your fault anyway. It seems to be the fault of the Mercury retrograde.”<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
